Today in Brazil we are celebrating Republic Day – 15 November

On 15th November 1889,  Marechal  (Field Marshal) Deodoro da Fonseca and the Republicans sacked the Ministers Council and its President. The same day the Field Marshal signed the charter  Proclamando a República no Brasil (Proclaiming a Republic in Brazil) and creating a provisional government.

After 67 years, the monarchy was finished. On 18 November  Dom Pedro II (Prince Regent) and the imperial family left for Europe. A República Brasileira (The Brazilian Republic) with Marechal Deodoro da Fonseca assuming the post of provisional President was born.
